Honeymoon Trip - Day 4
[left hotel at 1100L - drove (via SC-110) to nearby Cowpens National Battlefield - after visiting for a bit, drove back to I-85 (via SC-11) - we stopped at the Peachoid, something I've seen several times while driving along the interstate - it is a water tower in Gaffney, South Carolina, and it looks like a giant peach on a stick... - drove back to Spartanburg - shopping at the Foothills Factory Stores - switched to I-26 and drove south - stopped for the night a little early (1900L) and stayed at the Scottish Inn in Columbia - dinner at nearby Blimpies (subs)]

Honeymoon Trip - Day 3
[we forgot about the clocks changing! - we were up earlier than we planned... - left hotel at (the new) 1000L - got gas in Candler (nearby) - around Ashville on I-26 - (confusion about gas tank reading) - switched to US-25 near Flat Rock, North Carolina - dropped mail off at post office - took tour of Carl Sandburg Home (1130L) - got back on I-26 around 1315L - drove into South Carolina - lunch (near Spartanburg) at Burger King (1410L) - took I-85 (north) as far as Blacksburg - took NC-216 to Kings Mountain National Military Park (1500L) - spent nearly two hours on the walking trails (very pleasant) and then got back in the Sentra (which now sports "Just Married" on the back windshield!) - I-85 south, looking for hotel on the way - found Days Inn on the east side of Spartanburg (1800L) - dinner at Waffle House]

Honeymoon Trip - Day 2
[slept in late - checked out of hotel (1100L) - explored Pigeon Forge - picked up some groceries at Lathams Foodcenter (for the road!) - US-441 to Gatlinburg - explored Great Smoky Mountains National Park - visited Clingman's Dome (1300L) - while there, we walked for a little bit on the Appalachian Trail - stopped in Cherokee, North Carolina, to visit Indian Craft Mall - (visited Cherokee Indian Cyclorama Wax Museum ?) - bought souvenirs in town (1530L) - Blue Ridge Parkway to US-19 - taking our time all day... - drove through Maggie Valley (see AUG 1994) and thought about staying there for the night - instead, continued to explore - US-276 to I-40 - got off on US-19 near Chandler, North Carolina (west side of Ashville) - found Plantation Motel there (1915L) and checked in - picked up some supplies nearby - decided to drive back to Maggie Valley to have dinner at Maggie's Kountry Kitchen (2000L) - back to hotel (2145L) - Nicky worked on wedding announcements]

Honeymoon Trip - Day 1
[packed car - picked up travelers checks - said goodbye to Nicky's parents (1000L) - gas fillup on the way out of Meridian - took I-20 to I-59 all the way to Chattanooga - I-24 to US-74 - got our marriage license at the Hamilton County Courthouse (1515L) - gas fillup on the way out of Chattanooga - took I-75 towards Knoxville - got off interstate (near Lenoir City) and took US-321 - (running late, so called ahead (to Gatlinburg to reschedule service) - had dinner in Maryville, Tennessee, at Shoneys (1800L) - continued on US-321 - made it to Pigeon Forge before 2000L - checked into Family Inn (a "Honeymoon Hotel" with a heart shaped tub!) - Nicky called her mom and I called Dad - changed for the wedding - US-441 to Gatlinburg - ceremony at Sugarland Wedding chapel (2100L) - afterwards, picked up some champagne and headed back to hotel (2230L)]

[rented Hertz truck and moved all of Nicky's furniture from Hattiesburg to Meridian]

Wedding Trip - Day 4
[shopping in morning - (explored Manassas Battlefield at little bit ?) - picked up lunch - checked out of hotel at 1135L - gas nearby (1145L) - out of town on I-66 - on I-81 - gas stop in Bristol, Virginia (1650L) - I-81 to I-40 to I-75 to I-24 to I-59 - filled tanks and got snacks at Gadsen, Alabama (2130L) - I-20 back to Meridian - arrived at 0030L]

Wedding Trip - Day 3
[slept in - got ready for the wedding - left hotel at 1145L - I-66 to US-522 - wedding at the Flint Hill Public House ("a country inn") - very pretty ceremony - went to reception - afterwards (around 1800L), went back to hotel to change - late dinner at Shoney's - drove into DC (via I-66) and showed Nicky the city by night - we walked around a little bit on the Mall - back to hotel at 0100L]

Wedding Trip - Day 2
[up at 0900L - drove around for a bit, looking for a Metro station - eventually found one (Virginia Square) - took train into DC - walked around - Constitution Gardens - Rock Creek Park - Watergate Hotel - Kennedy Center (1155L) - lunch on Mall - (Nicky donated money to "Security Man") - Lincoln Memorial - Vietnam Veterans Memorial - Smithsonian Air and Space (1400L) - Nicky got "dog tags" - Smithsonian American History (1600L) - Metro back to our car (from Federal Triangle ?) - Linda & Russ' rehearsal dinner in Dumphries (Windsong ?) - stayed VERY late - back at Super 8 (0200L)]

Wedding Trip - Day 1
[Nicky was going to be one of the bridesmaids for her friend Linda's (and Russ') wedding - left Marion at 0705L - gas and groceries in town before departing - I-20/I-59 all the way to Chattanooga - I-24 and I-75 to I-40 - just before Knoxville, stopped for gas (1330L) - I-40 to I-81 - began to see VERY pretty foliage - gas in New Market, Virginia (2020L) - changed to I-66 - made it to Manassas, Virginia for the night (2200L) - staying at Super 8 Motel]
