Honeymoon Trip - Day 6

[imagine our surprise this morning when we discovered that last night was Six Flags' final night of the season (!) - it was like something out of a movie with the hotel front desk "you asked if Six Flags was open - yesterday it was and today it isn't..." - decided to head back to Meridian (funds getting low anyway...) - checked out of hotel and got some Dunkin Donuts for breakfast (1000L) - gas fillup soon after - drove all the way back (without stopping) - visited Nicky's parents (1300L) before heading to our new home!]

Honeymoon Trip - Day 5

[left hotel at 0930L - stopped for gas on the way out of Columbia (0950L) - used I-26, US-21, US-176, SC-6, US-601 and SC-48 to get to Congaree National Park (around 1100L) - it is a swamp, mostly, but there are lots of scenery and wildlife - weather was a little brisk, but the sun was shining and we had a nice time on the trails (including boardwarks through the swamplands) - left park after a nice time - used SC-48 to get back to I-77 - on I-26 for a short time and then US-378 - eventually got on US-178 and headed north - after taking SC-246 and SC-248, we reached Old Ninety Six National Historic Site (1500L) - the sun was very low in the sky, so we had to wear coats - very historic and interesting to me, but I think Nicky is "historied out"... - took SC-248 to US-178 - on SC-72, which turned into GA-72 (looked like something out of "Smokey and the Bandit"...) - now dark - on US-78 around Athens and all the way to I-285 - drove around to the west side of Atlanta and got on I-20 - our plan was to visit Six Flags tomorrow, so we got a hotel in Austell (the Mark Inn, with cheesy carpets and paint...) across the interstate from the park - we could see people on the rides but figured it was too late to pay a full day's entry fee - instead, did some shopping for groceries at a nearby Cub Foods store (a little scary...) - Nicky called her mom]
