San Diego, CA (USA)

When we (Rob P. and I) woke up, we learned that home plate had bought our commercial tickets after all - but we were scheduled to depart very late in the day! After checking out of the NAS North Island BOQ, getting gas (at Lee Rollins, Inc. on Pacific Highway) and returning the rental car to Avis (1400), we got transportation [(duty driver) ?] to San Diego International Airport.  In the end, we boarded by around 1500L and headed to Atlanta (we landed there at 2200).  After an hour layover, we were in the air again by 2300.  Flying at midnight...

San Diego, CA (USA)

[Aircraft Ferry Flight] Rob P. and I got up really early - we wanted to maximize the time on the ground at the end of the day. After departing NAS Cecil Field (0900), we flew west.  We stopped in Oklahoma City on the way (landed at about 1130L) and nearly got burned by the weather! Fortunately, we were airborne again by about 1300L and were able to pick our way through thunderstorms.  When we got to San Diego (1500L), we checked into the Bachelor Quarters at NAS North Island.  Bonus: we were authorized for a rental car (Avis) and, after picking it up (1700), had enough time to drive over to the San Diego Zoo! One of Rob's friends met us there and we had a good time looking around. We went to dinner in Old Town - Mexican. We were supposed to leave tomorrow, but I think that our home base is having trouble getting us tickets...

Arlington, VA (USA)

[started day at Sheraton National Arlington - breakfast - attended Mark's memorial service at Arlington National Cemetery (I marched in procession) - drove back to Camp Springs afterwards - returned rental van (Thrifty) - after waiting in the Andrews AFB Air Terminal for many hours (Space A status), we hitched a ride to NAS Jacksonville on a General's VIP plane - left NoVA at 1900 and arrived at NAS Jax by 2300 - headed home (arrived very late)]

Arlington, VA (USA)

[met up with several other members of our squadron at the NAS Jacksonville at the Air Terminal so we could fly to DC for a funeral at Arlington National Cemetery - Paul H. showed up at last minute - left Jaz at 1200 and arrived at Andrews AFB at 1500 - after landing, I picked up the rental van (from Thrifty) at 1530 and drove everyone over to Arlington - shared room (with John B.) at the Sheraton National Arlington - met for dinner and went to Old Town Alexandria on Metro - realized later that trains run only until around 2300 - after waiting a while at the Braddock Road platform with no activity, we had to get cab to reach the hotel again]
