Outer Banks, NC (USA)
I surprised everyone again with an impromptu trip to Cape Hatteras. We drove down, stopping at a Farmer's Market for fresh fruit, and made it to the National Seashore early in the afternoon. We spent a great day near the famous lighthouse on the beach - there was an excellent sandbar for body surfing and wading. The kids made some new friends who let them use their boogie boards. Came back to car - tire was completely flat. Luckily, we had our air pump. After we had a nice dinner, we drove over to Roanoke Island (Manteo) to watch the famous outdoor play "The Lost Colony" - in its 70th year. We haven't really done too many plays, but the kids liked being out under the stars while the cast sang and danced. We got our play-bills signed and the kids got their face painted, since we were in the Indian section. Kept checking tire pressure along the road after the show (2300). It was a (slow) late night drive home, but it was well worth it.

Newport News, VA (USA)
The kids and I visited an interesting place today - the Virginia Mariners' Museum - that had added a great addition to its collection: artifacts from the ironclad Monitor. I was very impressed with the display - including a nearly 3D movie depicting the Battle of Hampton Roads. I highly recommend this attraction.
