[rode bus (Van Dorn) - work - ran into Stephanie on Metro - we ended up going to Chevy's (Pentagon City) for Happy Hour - Joe R and Jim R came by later - Jim drove us home at 2100]

Mount Vernon, VA (USA)

[I woke up Mollie at 0730 so we could get ready to go to Mount Vernon - she’d hoped to bring her friends but those plans fell through - we left our house at around 0815 and were able to get a good parking spot - we did have to wait in a big line in the cold and drizzle - however, we got into Mount Vernon (fee free day) right when it opened - we watched some movies we hadn’t seen before (at the Visitors Center and then found a good place to watch the wreath laying at Washington’s Tomb - we met my friends, Kelly and Kim (and their kids) at about 1015 - we had picked up some tickets for the Mansion Tour and gave them to our friends - while they were (supposedly) on that tour, Mollie and I walked around the grounds, visiting animal enclosures and watching the 42 gun salute - we caught up with friends again at around 1115 and learned that they hadn't entered the mansion after all - we watched the military tactics demonstration - it started to rain and everyone else decided to leave - Mollie and I went to see a 4D movie about Washington and the Revolution (it was good) - we then headed home (1300) - back at my apartment, Mollie ate lunch and we watched a movie (“Class of ‘61”) - she later worked on her Equine Medical Center application and studied some more in her room - we watched another episode of “Wild Alaska” - Nicky came to pick up Mollie at 1740]

Woodbridge, VA (USA)

[I woke Mollie up at 0630 because I thought we were supposed to be at the Science Olympiad at 0800 - Mollie told me at that point that she’d received a text that the event had been moved to 0830 - after getting ready, Mollie ate breakfast - we then went to Walmart to buy some supplies - I decided to head to the school where the Science Olympiad was going to be held - this turned out to be a good thing because I thought it was the same place as last time but it wasn’t - when we arrived at the correct location (0800), the parking lot of W. T. Woodson High School was already full when we arrived - I dropped Mollie off after she gave me more details about the schedule for the day (including the lunch that was going to be provided) - I went home and worked around that house until Mollie was supposed to be done - because it started snowing, I left my apartment at 1545 (to get Mollie no later than 1630) and drove back to Fairfax - I picked Mollie up at 1620 (snow was much heavier) and we drove to Woodbridge - I’d planned to meet my friends, Sabrina and Greta, at the Brew Republic for a beer & donuts pairing but they couldn’t make it - instead, Kelly, Aidan and Mike joined us at around 1800 - Mollie ate dinner (shrimp po-boy sandwich and chips) and even shared some Duck Donuts with me (she discovered that she liked them after admitting she’d never tried them) - we stayed at the event until 1930 PM and then drove back to Alexandria - when we got home, we watched a movie (“The Glass Palace”) - Mollie went into her room to read her new book (for a newspaper book review article) at 2200 and we both went to sleep soon afterwards]

Falls Church, VA (USA)

[I woke Mollie up at 0630 and made her breakfast - I dropped her off at school at 0730 and went into DC (parked at Huntington) - work - I left the office early and took Metro to my car (had trouble with broken anti-theft key being broken but it worked out) - purchased fish sandwiches (late lunch) at McDonalds (1440) - picked Mollie up at school (1500) and then drove her to the dentist so Mollie could get her semi-annual cleaning and first Invisalign trays - we arrived about 15 minutes early and got sent in right away to see the doctor - Mollie had her teeth scanned and got them cleaned - she told me she was happy and excited to fix her teeth - at 1630 we went to Bob's Discount Furniture in Falls Church to see if my charge account was still active (it wasn't) - we also went to Petco so Mollie could see the animals - headed home via Giant (shopping) - after we got home (1845), I started cooking dinner (fish sticks, for Lent, and broccoli) - Mollie did some laundry and read in her room and we ended up eating a later meal together (2000) - afterwards, we watched a movie (“Cars 3”); and both went to bed by 2215]

[drove (Huntington) - work - walked to Penn Quarter - went to happy hour at Hill Country with Kelly, Mel, Joe R, Stephanie and friends - left at 1815 - picked up Mollie for our weekend together (at 1945) - Mollie did some school work in her room - when she was done (2100), we watched YouTube movies while Mollie cuddled with her stuffed red panda (Rowan AKA Barbarossa) from Valentine’s Day - we went to bed at 2300]

Burke, VA (USA)

[walked to Van Dorn Street Metro - had a very long wait for train - work - walked to Navy Yard to have lunch at Bluejacket with James L (done at 1145) - walked back to office - work - Mollie texted that she wanted to go to Ash Wednesday Service so I left work relatively early so I could get home on the bus - ate some food at my house and then I drove over to pick up Mollie (1915) - Mollie and I were planning to go to St. Lawrence Parish but the parking lot was packed - we drove by St. Bernadette Parish and found the same situation - we didn’t give up and kept looking for a place for the service - we eventually stopped at the Church of the Nativity Parish in Burke - the parking lot wasn’t too full so Mollie checked inside and learned it was because it was a Spanish Language service that started at 2000 - it took some convincing but Mollie agreed to take advantage of the last possible chance to get her ashes - we met some nice people and I got to practice my Spanish for the first time in many years - Mollie said she enjoyed the service - I took her home at 2100]

[rode bus (Van Dorn) - work - walked to Penn Quarter - happy hour at Hill Country with Tim F (Tim M cancelled) - finished late (1950) - walked back to L'Enfant (fireworks over District Wharf visible) - Metro train and bus home]

Woodbridge, VA (USA)

[rode bus (Van Dorn) - work - was going to meet Kelly in the city after work but she invited me to have dinner at her house in Woodbridge - went home at around 1500 (telcon on the way) - rode bus home - cleaned up in the apartment (and ate a snack) while waiting for Kelly to get home - as I was on my way to her house she called and asked me to meet her, Aidan and Emma at Firebirds in the Stonebridge Town Center - we ate a good meal (steak, potatoes, salad, carrot cake) - afterwards, we went to Kelly's house to watch the Olympics (Women's Half Pipe Finals) - I left at around 2300 - drove home without incident - bed very late]

[I coordinated with Mollie so I could take her to Republic Kolache (in DC) to redeem the King Cake baby (free kolache) - I picked her up from Nicky's at 0820 and we drove into DC - we had a very nice time at the restaurant, eating several new kolaches - I dropped Mollie off at her mother’s house at 0930]

Tyson's Corner, VA (USA)

[parked at Greensboro Station (Silver Line) - work - Silver Line to Greensboro Station - happy hour and dinner with Jill at Tyson's Biergarten (1745 to 2045) - we had a great time - she got on the Metro at around 2100 and I drove home (ended up over near Gallow's Road by accident but eventually got on I-495 and made it home OK]

[drove to Metro (Van Dorn) - work - at the end of the day, walked to L'Enfant CVS to meet up with Greta - took SW Shuttle to Wharf - drinks and dinner at Kirwan's on the Wharf (done at 2000) - took SW Shuttle back to L'Enfant - Metro train and bus home (left car at Van Dorn overnight)]

[Mollie slept until I woke her up at 0845 - we got ready and went to La Madeleine for brunch with Kelly and her kids (plus Emma’s friend) at 1000 - we had a good meal and nice visit (we hadn’t seen them for a long time) - afterwards, Mollie and I did some grocery errands and window shopping at Walmart - we talked about going to a movie but Mollie decided that she should study - several times during the day, Mollie and Nicky talked about the Super Bowl game plans - eventually, Mollie decided that she’d rather go with me to my friend’s party - I made teriyaki wings for the party and Mollie decided to make sausage and cheese balls - for the rest of the afternoon, we rested and read - at 1700, we drove over to Kim and David’s house in Falls Church for a Super Bowl Party - they didn’t arrive until around 1830 but they told us how to get inside - we ate dinner (pizza, wings, chips) there and stayed until after the halftime show (Justin Timberlake) - we then drove back to my apartment - we watched the third quarter of the Super Bowl with me - Nicky picked up Mollie at about 2130]

Alexandria, VA (USA)

[Mollie slept until 0830 and then ate breakfast - she enjoyed the King Cake kolaches that I got her in DC and even found a baby inside (!) - Mollie reviewed college letters she’d received at my address - we watched YouTube videos ("Daria") and listened to music - we had to go to Nicky’s to get a shirt that Mollie needed before I her off at The Yardhouse (Springfield Mall) for a birthday party (1130) - I picked up Mollie at 1500 and drove her friend, Rachel home - Mollie tried to get permission to take her dog, Bear, for a walk but could not reach Nicky - instead, we explored Fairfax County parks near Huntington Metro Station and on the Potomac River - we took a nature walk at the Dyke Nature Preserve, where Mollie had fun breaking the ice on the shoreline - we went to Mass at 1700 - when we got home, we made dinner (lemon chicken, green beans, salad with apples, croissants, King Cake) together - we cleaned up afterwards (2000) and then watched a movie (“Speed”) - we both headed to bed by 2215]

[I woke Mollie up at 0630 and she got ready for school; she ate breakfast and I dropped her off at school at 0720 - I went into DC (getting off at Archives Station) - I met Arun for coffee at Republic Kolache's, located in the Hill Country BBQ restaurant, and we had a nice chat for about an hour (until around 0845) - we walked back to L'Enfant and I worked from my new office for a half day - because Mollie wanted to take her Learner's Permit exam, I coordinated to leave my office early - Mollie met me at the McDonalds across the street from her school (I picked her up at 1515) and we immediately drove to the DMV so Mollie could take the test - we were missing a residence verification document but they let us retrieve it at home (after a quick drive) - we even maintained our place in line - however, Mollie ended up failing the test by one question (after she changed two from correct to incorrect) - we went to dinner (Ghengis Grill) so we could take advantage of a special price and free appetizer - back at home, we watched a movie (starting at 1845) - after it was over, we watched YouTube snippets until it was time for bed (2245)]
