Rota, Andalucia (Spain)
Had time to walk around Lajes Air Base this morning and got good views of the whitecaps on the ocean - it was clear for several miles... Checked out of my room at the Mid-Atlantic Lodge by 0945L. Departed from the Azores soon after that. The flight over to Spain was good. While the jet was fueling at Naval Base Rota, I had enough time explore near the air terminal. I found a little store that was selling some interesting little men made out of clay, each painted to portray something unique. There were sailors, bullfighters, flamenco dancers, etc. I bought a few of them (1855L) [NOTE - when I brought them home, the kids called them "mud people". Actually, I think my dad also bought some of these he picked up over here in the late 60s or early 70s]. After we got in the air again, the trip to Italy went well. After we landed (in the dark) at NAS Sigonella, the weather that greeted us was much warmer than when I came in February... After getting our Detachment briefing, we all checked into the NAS Sigonella Bachelor Housing. I went to sleep immediately. Hoping for a good Detachment!
