Nomad Life - Day 136

For the first time on my Nomad Life journey, I awoke (0530, alarm required) to find a thick layer of snow on my car.  Not only that, but the temperatures were low enough to freeze this covering.  Hoping for some warmer temps, I ignored the urge to leave my room to scrape off the snow - instead, I started teleworking immediately.  When I left my room at 0715 to get some breakfast in the Lobby of the Air Force Inns (Hill AFB), I carefully made my way across a black-ice-covered parking lot.  The food selection, which had started out very nice, was gradually reducing in variety and quantity.  Still, it was better than making my own food in the room...  Back at my CBQ building again, I took some time to scrape the ice from my car - this wasn't easy and took a bit of time.  Before long, however, I was back to teleworking (and meetings for the next few hours).  At 1145, I made/ate lunch and then resumed work.  In the end, I completed my work day by 1415.  By then, the temps had risen into the low 40s and most of the ice was melting on the buildings and cars.  This gave me a chance to do some walking near the Air Force Inn before I suddenly received a call from Mollie.  It was really nice to be able to talk to her - we were on the phone for nearly 75 minutes!  Promising we'd talk again soon, we hung up and I switched to a business call with USAA (about a possible change of residency and how it might impact my insurance).  After that, I briefly considered resuming my pursuit of my daily step goal (with the remaining daylight).  Instead, though, I decided to get a drink at "The Landing" Happy Hour  (1630).  This turned out to be a good idea - I met up with Gary (bartender) again but, this time, there were also Airmen (celebrating their Thursday evening).  The latter group talked to me, explaining that they met weekly for Happy Hour.  After they departed, I watched the Bingo Tournament.  This time (unlike on Tuesday), the whole event made more sense because Gary showed me a schedule of events and payouts for the evening.  Seemed like serious business!  Along the way, I met the Club Manager, who helped Gary set up the TV so we could watch some college football.  I hadn't intended to stay late but, before i knew it, I realized it was already 1830!  Saying goodbye (and thanks) to Gary, I next walked to the nearby Bowling Alley and ordered dinner (1900).  While watching some airmen bowling in the one active lane, I ate my grilled cheese and fries.  Once my meal was completed, I walked around in the snow outside until 2020, logging 2.5 miles and meeting my step goal.  Back in my room again, I spent the rest of the evening reading, doing puzzles and watching movies. Bed time was at 2215.  Not a very busy day but I very much enjoyed immersing myself in AFB life!
