Mason Neck, VA (USA)
Man, oh man, was it windy on the Potomac today - probably 25 knots, headed right at the shore! Tried to get an hour of kayaking in at Mason Neck but had to fight wind to get the boat in the water and then use all my balance to keep it from capsizing or foundering while paddling. The picture only shows a taste of the swells (+/- 1 foot throughout & up to +/- 2 feet when motorboats went by). When I got far enough from shore and turned towards the beach to paddle, I was flying! Worked about a mile down the river and back - the short distance was still enough exercise that I could feel it in my shoulders, arms, back and even my legs. Spent a little more time paddling near the landing to round out the hour. Exhilarating!
