Nomad Life - Day 4
I slept well last night and was awake by 0530. Almost immediately, I began teleworking - it was my first official day as a Digital Nomad! The only difference from my "normal" remote work (in New Hampshire) was the new location. Fortunately, things went smoothly during the morning hours and I didn't experience any hiccups with the new arrangement. Along the way, I ate a light breakfast (fruit) and got to talk to Katie, John and Johnny for a little bit. Otherwise, it was business as usual until after noon - all my meetings ended and I had time to make myself some lunch (sandwich and chips). Continuing my telework day, I had some phone calls and documents to review - this kept me busy all the way until 1500. At that point, I loaded up my car and headed towards Cape Cod. As I got on MA-3, I immediately encountered what I later deduced to be the Boston Rush Hour - the traffic was heavy for about 20 miles. Since it was already slow going, I made a stop at a Walmart (redeemed deposits on bottles and cans) and Staples (recycled ink cartridges and old tech) in Plymouth. Finished at about 1615, I continued south on MA-3 (traffic lighter) and crossed the Sagamore Bridge at about 1645. I arrived at my father's home in Sandwich a short time later and spent some time visiting with him. At 1730, Dad started cooking dinner (grilling burgers) and we (including Beth) ate dinner about 30 minutes later. It was nice to visit and talk about recent news and we made plans for the rest of the week. The (three) dogs were boisterous and friendly and they wouldn't stand for being ignored - I gave plenty of pats and got lots of licks in return. Later, I got situated in the "guest house" (a place I'd never slept before) and then we departed for our "Coogan Ritual" of exploring the Cape by the "scenic route" and our fix of Summer Evening Ice Cream. We passed by some beaches, some historic homes, a new retirement community and several beautiful marshes. As for the ice cream, my dad tried a few locations along MA-6A but then gave up (too crowded) and crossed the Cape Cod Canal to look for better options in Buzzards Bay. We found one that I've tried before (Betty Ann's Dairy Freeze) and got some delicious scoops/shakes. Next, we drove around on the property of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and I got to see the brand new Training Ship (wow!). Backtracking to Sandwich, my dad showed me some more new things (changes since my last visit). At the house again (2045), Dad and Beth started to get ready for bed. After saying good night to them, I decided to try to get the last of my 10K steps and ended up walking around on dark streets near their house. I was successful in my quest so felt good about returning to the house for my own bed time. Before nodding off to sleep in the cozy little "cottage" in their back yard, I did some reading and organizing for the next day. I was asleep by about 1030. Very glad to be "home" on Cape Cod!
