Nomad Life - Day 5

My day started early (0545), with loud birds singing and a low-fly-by visit by the US Coast Guard (helicopter).  It was good, though, since I wanted to get an early start with my telework and because I had a chance to get my Subaru serviced at a dealership in Bourne.  My dad and I talked a little bit during this window and he made me some breakfast (eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast).  At about 0715, I departed from Sandwich and drove to the southwest (MA-6A to the Bourne Bridge Rotary) - using some backroads after that, I arrived at Atlantic Subaru by 0730.  They weren't open yet but, after I spoke with an employee who was working inside the service bay, I dropped off my Outback early.  Between 0745 and 1000, I teleworked from the waiting area - this worked well because there weren't many people and the only nearby noises were coming from a soothing video of wild animals from around the world.  My car only needed basic services but there were optional items that I elected to resolve before my "true" Van Life began.  After getting my car back, I headed back to my dad's house (arrived at 1020) and set up in his office for a series of meetings I had for the rest of the day.  Things went pretty well, except when I had an overlap in two meetings that required my input/help - fortunately, I managed to segue between them.  When I got a short break, I chatted with my dad and made plans with local family and friends for later in the week.  My dad also made me some lunch (tuna sandwich) before I returned to the office for a series of afternoon discussions online with my colleagues.  My work day finally ended at about 1600 and I then transitioned to working on repacking my car - this was easier than I'd thought because I've already learned which items will be important/valuable while I'm traveling.  The weather was wonderful and I sat outside with my dad in his backyard "man cave" area.  We saw lots of birds (they seem to love his yard) and the dogs kept us company.  My dad started preparing dinner (tuna casserole with chicken, salad) at about 1700 and we all (Dad, Beth, dogs) enjoyed a sit-down meal together.  Finished eating at 1800, my dad then drove me to the Upper Cape Tech baseball field so we could attend a Cape Cod Baseball League Playoff Game between the Bourne Braves (home team) and the Hyannis Mets.  The weather was perfect (low 70s, clear and sunny with a light breeze) and we were treated to a wonderful game.  I met several of my dad's friends from his "Old Timers Lunch" and got a bunch of walking in between innings.  It was great to see the kids playing pickup baseball games and I found a location nearby with a beautiful view of the Cape Cod Canal, including the Bourne Bridge and Railroad Bridge.  Late in the game, the Mets got a rally started and that ended up making the difference - sadly, the home team lost.  As the game ended (2100), my dad and I headed for the exit; however, it took a while for us to get out of the UCT parking area.  Still, we were home by 2130 and I spent the next 45 minutes walking in nearby neighborhoods (getting the last of my 10K steps).  Back at my dad's house, I cleaned up for the evening and settled back into the "guest cottage" for the night.  After some reading, I went to bed at 2230.  Another classic Cape Cod Summer day!
