Nomad Life - Day 75

With difficulty, I started my telework day at 0400 in San Diego (needed an alarm clock assist to get moving).  The morning was cool and breezy, without a hint of rain.  During one break I took (to get a drink), I marveled at the wonderful views from Charlie's balcony - it was possible to see the entire northern end of San Diego, including Point Loma, Mission Bay (and Sea World) and the University of San Diego on a nearby hill.  Farther away, the top of the Coronado Bay Bridge and the masts of some aircraft carriers were barely visible.  I ate a late breakfast (cereal) and, during a break from work, had a telehealth visit with my Nutritionist.  Work continued until 1330, with only one more break for lunch (pizza, fettuccini, strawberries) before that time.  Afterwards, I made a reservation in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles for a stay later in the week - I was hoping to be able to visit with my cousin, Kevin, and the daughter of my friend (Chris), Ashley. I visited with Charlie and watched the weather degrade.  By then, rain could clearly be seen developing across Mission Bay.  Rain and mist continued for a lot of the afternoon but I was able to take Brahma (all 170 pounds of him) for a walk in the neighborhood.  While exploring, I found streets near Charlie's home that had a view of the ocean - from the high vantage point of his neighborhood, the beautiful coastline in the Pacific Beach neighborhood looked very inviting.  Back at the house, I watched hummingbirds playing on Charlie's deck - that was interesting!  I also had a chance to catch up some more with Charlie and really get to know Janna.  After school, Gino's sons (Sebastian and Jonah) came over to wait for their dad to be finished with his work and I got to watch Charlie in "homework tutor" mode. At about 1800, the weather improved and I was able to take a longer walk near the house.  I found a place to watch the (very early) sunset and also got interesting views of the airport, ships departing San Diego, etc.  During this walk, I explored base housing, found lots of pretty homes on the hill.  The best images were made by the reflecting light of the sunset on buildings to the west.  For the first time in a few days, I managed to finish my 10K steps.  When I returned to the house, I found that dinner was nearly completed - Charlie (with help from Gino, during breaks from his job) had spent much of the afternoon preparing grilled/smoked salmon, garlic potatoes, corn and fettuccini.  At 1930, we all sat down to eat and everyone enjoyed the food.  We had some more good conversation during the meal and the discussion got even livelier after Gino came to get his sons later in the evening.  He ended up staying to eat and we all watched "Remember the Titans" (Jonah's request).  The kids (and dogs) left at 2130 and then Charlie and I watched the rest of the movie.  Janna was watching something else (in another room) but made appearances throughout the evening.  I got to try an Old Fashioned "bottle" ("just add whiskey and a cherry") - it was good.  At 2230, I said goodnight to my friends and headed off to bed.  The evening would have been quite early but, just as I was getting ready go to sleep, I realized I'd received a response from the hotel in Los Angeles that my car was too tall for the parking garage.  Fortunately, I was able to cancel the reservation (without penalty) but I felt very relieved to not be stuck in a bad lodging situation.  However, I then got into a rabbit hole trying to find a new place to stay.  It was hard to find alternatives!  Eventually, I had to give up so I wouldn't stay awake too long - I turned out the lights at 2315.  Very relaxing day - wish there were more of these!
